Igama
Endure EP Self-Released TBR: 3rd July Salt Lake City, is it traditionally sweat or tears? Maybe a bit of both. Igama chooses to create amazing backdrops through recorded ambience, live keyboards, guitar, and vocals. This electronic sculptor of sound now stands with this three track masterpiece. By utilising the best of several genre blends and creating a unique cocktail of sonic tonics, Igama never ceases to deliver the extraordinary and exciting. With awkward chiming repeats, freckled with static dapples, the music begins. A sliding quality shimmers along greasy metal and sweaty wood as various timbres elevate from the mixture. Rhythm breaks like ice-cubes crackling under the addition of fresh orange. Momentary blips and dreamy interludes pin together a fabric of introspective sound. Endure relaxes us, progresses gently, and allows us space in our own mind. Next is Warm. Wavery and rhythmic scales frolic and twirl in meadow like audio spaces. Sunny areas of distinctive trill flurry and skid in kite like movements around invisible fulcrums. Sunny guitar like bends with distinctive bluesy formations wander through the electronic avenues of rhythm and paced ambience. The EP ends with a track called Cold. This one takes us to a polar opposite to Warm in a way, yet on a globe it's only adjacent. How our similes decay. The crispness and icy winds of sound spiral and build in currents of potential. Shifting air invigorates the space as gentle light is reflected from distant mountain ranges. A glare shimmers in the blue sky as various fishing birds flock and coil as they migrate to the coast. worriedaboutsatan & Veins Full Of Static What Are You Looking For? / How Long Will You Sleep After You Let The Ship Sink This Is It Forever Records TBR: 10th July An exclusive cassette and digital release makes this an already sought after production. Known for their ambience and transcendence, worriedaboutsatan and Veins Full Of Static now collaborate for this two-track stand-alone. This truly experimental and rules-free duo sees the artists make the most of their given side of tape in what ever way they feel best. Music without formula perhaps has the most soul. It begins on wispy sonics that flutter and fall in ambient rooms. Like sunlight flowing through a cloud of incense, tones reverberate in. A steady rhythm that's chonked with reverb beats down in gradual pulses. A heavenly aspect shimmers forth as vocals repeat in choral harmonies. As a tidal flux progresses in and out, sections reveal as tapestries in larger patterns yet to be revealed. As strings beckon, a new rhythm of scraping epicness churns like gravel in an ambivalent machine. Surrounding are flocks of casual birds and moving clouds which skip on graceful currents. Once more the ebb and flow draws the surge in, revealing a silty bed of shimmering minerals and scattered left-behinds. The final track begins with a synthesiser rumble and string. It builds with distant fog-horn like pitches which penetrate the churning static fog. A semblance of melody begins to form from reductions in the gloom. New whistling tones peak in discreet sections of the mix and knit gentle patterns within a liquid amalgam of sonic delivery. Huge spaces with air currents like oceans form and break across each other's wake. cnidae Bytes Records TBR: 26th June A branch of the Ransom Note Records tree, Bytes are taking the mission to new levels and new angles of sunlight. jik is made up of two students from Warsaw in Poland. Paula and Bartek both add their personal vibe and techniques to create something unique and fulfilling. This debut record is set to show electronic music fans what this part of the world is capable of. As a part of Bytes history, this duo were the first musicians to send a demo to the label. It seems that the effort paid off as here they are on the sixth catalogue release. The album opens with arp. Subtle shakers and tinnish taps radiate a smooth tempo while snaking synths gather from the corners and assemble in the centre. Sparkling lights twinkle in repeating phrases as various elements of tone and percussion ring out in spacial patterns. The music fades into a reverberation as new tempos are added to the fire. Pitches and drums inspired by the sounds of Warp Records dance in strange orbs that delicately decorate the sonic horizon. A deep and emotive bass rhythm opens the next track. Childlike melodies play out alongside, with neat shaking bells and tappety cymbals that invigorate the flow. The graceful melodics of kumkwat progress in fuzzy illuminations which dance and circle strange pillars of playful intent. A hypnotic element is in the drum, it beats with far-reaching impetus and encourages a dreaming state of mind. Matched with the harmonisation and evolution of tune, the journey seems wonderful. This is followed by organellum. Fizzing synth tones drape their sonic colour across large spaces of potential. The slow and breathy opening rises with gradual inclusions of new sound. Pad synthesisers dapple as saws slice the silence with manicured teeth. A relaxing vibration drifts through as gentle progress allows the mix to reveal new chapters and motivation as each movement takes shape. This huge fifteen minute lucid sleepwalk guides us towards new perspectives and sensations of being. Haunting horn sounds are thrown across longitudinal vectors as a slow yet inviting metal rhythm builds like rising dough. A gradual and expertly crafted formulation reveals ever more pressing dimensions to this xanthan of sound. Whistles and radiances, brilliant and shrill, tilt and swing on axles that pivot on sensitive springs. Jedynka is a slow burner, the currents of loosely cut sound are spun on a revolving pivot of growing rhythmic intensity. Another mammoth mix is laid down for the fifth number. It begins with swirly bass which crumbles and distorts across broken glass textures. Crumbled and disjointed sounds layer like biscuity whipped cream as generous amounts are piped and then spread around with graceful brushes of kinetic projection. Mind over matter brings this track into a presence of being a meditation and an invitation to the party at number one subconscious street. Wspomnienia is an epic story, full of shifting sands and juxtapositions of flow. A scattering of pitches glisten and shine in dancing spots of point-point sound as the new number opens its pages. Twinkling lanterns bounce from gloopy ghosts which curl in opaque bass-lines. Then a prickly drum-fill adds a layering of percussion which rumbles and cracks areas of unknown dimension. A simple title of ibid reveals a subtle complexity and melancholia behind intelligent sculptures of progressive percussion and harmony. Track seven is called przejscie and it opens with whistling tones that swirl briskly past a neat tapping drum. Winds lick the floor and walls as the sound of intention simmers through the evocative atmosphere in the room. Shakers and bells reveal dampened corners that wait for sunlight to brush away the shadows. Slow and seductive, the tones ripple in delicate yet mentally provocative shades of tempered feeling. Latent heat rises from the quivering pressures that are held within grains and lattices. The final piece begins with static like blips and sonic spots that prickle and paint with splashes of regular spray. A siren like bass wheels in the background as a gradual gate infuses its sound with a dimension of twist. This is then grabbed and amplified to create a whole new formation in the sonic sky which flutters out of existence almost as fast as it was created. With a title like momenty zgrania i niezgranial, we can expect a fragmented and disparate number. This is what we get, as percussive glitches form knots and spongy bodies among the micro-gravity realm of planetary formation. This unique and expertly blended album demonstrates what electronic music can do and how it can be used to interact with our most primal and evolved senses. Geistech
Enochian Voices Science Cult Records TBR: 10th July EDM and IDM from Mexico City features on this next Science Cult issue. Geistech has become well established already on the local circuit and online with great sounding dark minimal dance. Captivating party-goers with dramatic and evocative manifestations of melodic tempo, this label debut release is the result of hard work and dedication. Enochian Voices already has the world waiting to listen. With six blinding tracks, Enochian Voices spells success for rhythm and synthesiser fans the world over. The album starts with a twinkling pulse synthesiser and a kick drum. Upbeat phrases grow like fractal trees in moments of timing. A bass squidge is added, soon followed by extra drumming and then a vocal-line. Repeating words build with the dynamic as new layers of bass and rhythmic melody flush across the composition. With progressive clarity, the evolution brings on hypnotic elements of quick and dense dance. Alquimista throws us in the deep-end with catchy, inventive, and unique sounds all working together. Aztec Mirror starts with a resonating bass tone. Eerie synth drops plip in random plashes before a steady kick drum dressed in distortive fizz begins to thump. A snare is also added, it cracks the music with continual steady snaps. Odd minor keyed notes sprawl like loose violins as a section of hi-hat adds a fast step to the flow. More additions of rhythm are stitched in, off-beats and double-ups each grace the kinesis with unique aspects. Next, a subtle hi-hat rattles in a distance as an in-your-face vocal begins chanting. Distorted phonic buzz along the gradually building rhythm before a stabbing bass-line is brought into play. Wandering high-notes circle in spacial patterns then the vocal begins again. A human edge with an anti-aesthetic sharpness slices through the swirling hypnogogia. Encantatum builds with shifting sands swooping and coalescing again in various adjustments of key. Enochian Lenguage is next. It starts with a piercing kick drum and sloshy drips of dappled bounce. Airy synthesisers shine in echoing lines across the far-reaching ceilings of sound. The drums evolve, extra percussion gives way to a sleek and dynamic rhythm which although delicate, contains enough energy to boil a dance-floor. Hard-hitting drums are thrown down at random intervals before yet more progression unveils a new second layer. A festival of rhythm with radiant melodics filling the spaces ensues. After comes a steady beat that's full of reverb. Interesting rolls on a cymbal signify the beginning proper and a set of rhythms mark a footsteps style piece. As we walk or march on the spot to the music, various aspects make themselves apparent. Jostling functions of sound merge and combine and this rolls open a door from which enters another vocal. Bubbling effects once more distort and garble the phonics as build-ups and shake-downs continue to adjust the flux of the tempo. This is The Key, and if my ears serve me right, it's about upbeat grooves with evocative interludes held together by funky glue. Finally, we're treated to Presente. What is immediately noticeable is that it's slightly slower than the previous track. A smooth attitude crafts and creates through laid-back beats. Wooden sounding percussion mixes with a fizzing vibration sound that pulses and twangs to the rhythm. Harmonising tones dance in the distance as whispering additions that decorate the skeletal frame with silken flesh. A dreamy picture builds as the repeating drums allow for the dramatic and reserved build-up of each element. This culminates in yet more interesting vocals, once more artistically sculpted with effects. Locked Groove
Enter Revolution EP Locked Groove Records TBR: 5th June Locked Groove returns to the pressure-station in order to unleash one more round of fantastic dance music. Utilising the best that obscurity has to offer by releasing on his own label, growing a brand new tree in the forest of electro is a job for only the most plugged in artists. The scope of talent on offer from Locked Groove is made clear once more as this three track release touches on many variants of the sound, showing the formula has many independent variables. Enter Revolution perhaps wants to show us that even with the massive distribution curve of outcomes, the whole can be made to point in the same direction. Enter Revolution begins and it hits us with a resonant and vibratory bass rhythm that wafts in and out of earshot. Smooth reverberating pads chime in abstract and dreamy melodics as a drum rhythm begins to strike a direction. Pattering drums and thumping kick mingle with distributed metalwork that shimmers in compressed spaces. The percussion rises and falls in waves of meaning as tranquil notes continue to rattle and glisten within the commotion. Vocals now, they churn in robotic phraseology while formations in the drumming twist and invite more additions of tone. The music switches to a new angle, cleaner and less horizonish, a focus reinvents the journey. The next offering simmers into being through the medium of shimmering tones that bounce in a juicy tempo. They're joined by quick splashy drums, soaking with squelch and muted gates. The rhythm builds across the ambience as a heavy kick element roar through each bar. It thrusts the music into place as the repeating motions begin to show signs of adaptation. Extra sounds fall in, they whir and muse in disparate sections. Nth of Time feels like a continually moving mechanical track that builds in gradual motions. By the time it's reached a climax, the whole piece has the sense of a high-speed train. Final track, You Can't Walk Through A Buffalo Herd, perhaps nods at the packed venues Locked Groove is treated to each time he plays. It begins on a cut-throat bass drum that automatically sets the pace for dancing. Spirally sounds dance and chatter in the top-end while a selection of percussion instruments knit the filling into something tasty. A splendid array of various tones merge in a combination of kinesis which feels like a wall of well manicured and expertly placed wave-formations. Is this much different to a herd of buffalo? Their is expertise somewhere, even if it's not with the individual animals. It's the way they operate together that makes the sum greater than its parts.
